Tips and Tricks: Merge

Tips & Tricks: Merge

Master FaceApp with advanced tips. These Tips &Tricks series bring together the most useful techniques for achieving professional photo enhancements with minimal effort.

*Please note that some of the features are currently not available for Android users.

FaceApp is easy to pick up, yet its simplest interface hides a surprising amount of depth. Beyond the familiar filters, there are powerful tools designed for easy portrait retouching. Many of these features stay unnoticed, even though they can noticeably elevate the final result.

These portrait editing tips help you maintain consistency, speed, and a polished finish—all within a single app.

Merge Photos for Controlled, Layered Adjustments

Eraser and Merge features allow you to lock in your current edits and continue refining the image without stacking effects, keep skin texture intact, and prevent the “plastic” look.

How to use it:

  • Apply your filters, hairstyle or color.
  • Use the Eraser to keep only the facial area.
  • Tap the three dots in the top-right corner.
  • Select Merge.
  • Continue editing from this new baseline.

This feature came about because, before, FaceApp filters used a single mask that changed your whole face at once. Since you couldn’t apply different filters to different parts, FaceApp created this tool to fix that.

Now, you have the freedom to adjust specific facial features independently. This means you can brighten eyes, smooth lips, tweak your nose, or change your hair separately, and the rest of your photo stays untouched. The result is editing that’s more precise and controlled, ensuring your overall look remains natural and balanced.

This is especially effective for vivid colors or multi-step refinements, giving you cleaner, more intentional results.
